The, Land Of Opportunities By James Truslow Adams

The United States of America is often known as the â€Å"Land of Opportunities.† James Truslow Adams in 1931 wrote a book titled The Epic of America, and in it stated [the American Dream is a] dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement†¦ [It is] a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able †¦ [to] be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position.† (Adams). However, this American Dream can be hard to accomplish if one is living in poverty without the necessary resources to put their abilities to use. It is even more difficult for a child in poverty to gain access to these resources, let alone express their abilities and talents with them. Poverty in America affects children under the age of 18 academically, mentally, and physically, in addition to how well they may do in the futu re in regards to their education and career aspects. The word â€Å"poverty† is an abstract noun. This being said, everyone views poverty differently. Poverty can be especially difficult for a child to understand. For example, a child might think that they are living in poverty because they live in a house that is smaller compared to the size of houses that their friends live in. Perspective and Values of Generation Y
